Verlaine et ses amis is a poetic-musical performance centered on Paul Verlaine (1844-1896). Four passionate women take you on a journey through the life and work of this iconic poet. In this performance, poetry, music, and stories are woven into an atmospheric whole in the spirit of the French fin-de-siècle, perfectly fitting the atmosphere of the music salon at Huis Midwoud.

In a chamber music setting, with voice, cello, and piano, the Verlaine Ensemble performs songs by composers who were inspired by Verlaine and his circle. You will hear music by Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, Francis Poulenc, Alphons Diepenbrock, and Henriëtte Bosmans, among others.

Musicologist Désirée Staverman outlines the life of Verlaine and his intense contacts with other artists and composers.
