Onder stoom in Herfstvakantie

From Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 October, the fire in the boiler at the Stoommachinemuseum, located in the former steam pumping station Vier Noorder Koggen, will be stoked daily (except Mondays) and you can see the robust machines in operation. You will discover how the invention of the steam engine changed the world and how steam power was used in areas such as water management, transport and industry.

A day out for young and old

Miniature steam engines are ready for you to make steam yourself and discover what steam power does. If you lend the stoker a hand, you will receive a real stoking diploma as a reward. If the blacksmith is present in the old forge of the pumping station, you can also earn a blacksmithing diploma. So roll up your sleeves, you don’t come to the Stoommachinemuseum to do nothing!

Bucket dredger

On the weekend of 10 and 11 October, you can also see the coal-fired bucket dredger in operation in the museum harbour. Step on board and discover how the crew used to work and live.

Gouden Nacht Medemblik Saturday 10 October

At the Stoommachinemuseum, one of the participating locations, you can enjoy the free musical performance ‘Onderweg – Brieven met hoopvolle klanken’. The performance lasts twenty minutes and is performed by De Compagniezangers and two actors. Start of performances: 19:30 – 20:30 – 21:30.
