In this film concert story, Yvo Verschoor tells the story of what Frau Buch, the largest concert grand piano in Huis Midwoud, experienced in her long life at the place where she stood from 1926 to 2011; a former psychiatric hospital in Berlin-Buch, and how she ended up here in Midwoud.
Frau Buch witnessed Aktion T4, a sophisticated Nazi program designed to eliminate as many patients as possible as cheaply and efficiently as possible between 1939 and 1941. Ultimately, it cost the lives of 300,000 people in Nazi Germany. Yvo and Frau Buch focus on Werner, one of the many victims, who was murdered at the age of 15, simply because he suffered from occasional epileptic seizures and had learning difficulties.
This performance, directed by Maarten Mourik, was made possible in part by the Mondriaan Fund and premiered during the coronavirus pandemic after 10 years of research by Yvo and more than 25 years of research by Rosemarie Pumb (Berlin-Buch).
The performance draws attention to the hidden horrors of the Nazi regime leading up to the Holocaust and will continue to be performed regularly at Huis Midwoud, because exclusion, discrimination, and antisemitism are unfortunately still very relevant and so that more and more people “know and do not forget.”
The reactions after the last performance of Hidden and Forgotten were again truly overwhelming!
It’s not every day that people come to thank you with tears in their eyes after a performance. There were people there for the second, third, and even fourth time, bringing others with them, and they were once again completely moved and impressed.
Thank you all for all the lovely compliments!
I hope you will continue to tell it, because this story deserves to be heard and seen.
