Beleef de levende geschiedenis bij Oorlogsmuseum Medemblik
- 11 July 2026
- 10:00 – 17:30
This unique Dutch living history reenactment group organizes impressive demonstrations no fewer than twelve times a year, bringing the history of the American Engineers from World War II to life.
During these days, you will discover a special collection of authentic American vehicles, equipment, and uniforms. Additionally, an original pontoon bridge from this period can be admired in the museum. It is set up on dry land, where reenactors provide detailed explanations regarding the operation, construction, and crucial importance of this equipment during the war.
The American Engineers played an indispensable role in the liberation of Western Europe. When permanent bridges were destroyed by the retreating enemy, they ensured that Allied troops could continue their advance by constructing emergency bridges in a short time.
During the Living History Days, there is plenty of action and experience. For example, you can:
attend weapons demonstrations;
Sailing along with the storm boats;
A ride in an authentic army truck;
Watch demonstrations of the Leroi compressor truck;
See how smoke machines work;
Taking a look at the field kitchen.
Through these interactive demonstrations, you not only receive explanations but also experience what the life and work of these soldiers were like. This makes it clear how important their efforts were – and how valuable freedom is.
Come along during one of the living history days, meet the reenactors, ask your questions, and experience this unique history up close.
Plan your visit and let yourself be taken to an impressive piece of the past that is still palpable.
