Medieval Encampment

Sunday 28 July 2024

Come to the medieval encampment and see what things were like in the past. This weekend the Hanseatic Company will pitch its tents again at Radboud Castle and will work on old crafts such as embroidery, bookbinding and ropemaking. The craftsmen are happy to talk about their work and show you everything. You can also meet the plague doctor!

The medieval encampment is outside and freely accessible. If you also want to visit the museum, we recommend that you order your tickets online in advance.

More about the Hanseatic Company.

The Hanseatic Company is a regular visitor to Radboud Castle. The name has a medieval background: Hanseatic League was an association of cities, founded by medieval merchants. Thanks to the cooperation, the cities could trade well and defend interests and merchandise, armed if necessary. The Hanseatic cities were rich enough to hire knights and soldiers. One of the Hanseatic cities is Kampen, home of the Hanseatic Company. Both the crafts and the knights are represented with this name.
