Waterberging Twisk proves that water storage and nature can go hand in hand. It has become a major birdwatching spot in the area. It spans 38 hectares and can store up to around 100,000 m³ of water when the rains are heavy. This prevents the rest of this part of West-Friesland from flooding.
Water-filled parts and large swamp areas are connected here. It makes for a great home for swamp and water birds. The natural bank of the centuries-old bog stream called the Oostermare boasts a meandering cycling path. Take a break at the Waterberging, find a spot behind the sheltered screen and watch the birds do their natural thing.
