Two singer-songwriters in an acoustic performance – Dutch-language Americana for connoisseurs – at a special monumental location.
Jan van der Smit (including The Landlords, Wally Tax, The Bartales) and Pieter Baas (including The Eldorados, Marga & de Tijgers) – both influenced by rock & roll and rhythm & blues – crossed paths regularly. However, a collaboration was not forthcoming for a long time.
Jan released several Dutch-language albums in the past decades that were well received: ‘Charming miniatures about the moving everyday’ (Jan Vollaard,NRC) and ‘above all he is a singer who can evoke emotion about small things’. ‘Small observations, beautifully worded’ (Cees Bronsveld, music magazine Heaven), and ‘Van der Smit paints songs, with sure-fire brushwork’ ( fileunder.nl ).
Inspired by this, Pieter released Het Oudste Geheim in 2022. More rock & roll. Harrie naar deHaaien became a truckers hit. During a successful broadcast of a regional television program, ‘De Westfriese Oorzaak’, Jan and Pieter performed a few pieces together, Baas & Van der Smit was born.
