On Sunday, October 25, Ista and Daan will host the powerful and moving experience. MAAF/SORRY is a 60-minute performance that invites reflection and dialogue. It is a call for understanding and reconciliation in a world that needs it more than ever. The performance is the result of a collaboration between Indonesian theatre makers Ista Putranto and the Dutch Daan Bosch, who delved into our colonial past together. Both Dutch and Bahasa Indonesian are spoken in the performance.

Ista (Indonesia) and Daan (the Netherlands) dive together into the complex history of colonization and the profound legacy this past has left behind.

In MAAF/SORRY, they bring this history to life with a mix of theater, mask play, and music, confronting the audience with the painful and often uncomfortable truth of our shared past. But the performance also looks ahead: what does it mean to offer an apology? What does a sincere apology entail, and what comes after? How do we build a shared future after such a fraught past?

For this performance, Ista and Daan spoke with former KNIL soldiers and people from former Dutch colonies. Their stories and insights have been meticulously incorporated into the performance, resulting in a rich and nuanced perspective.
