The performance “Poetry is my breath” was the last Felix Strategier (Flint) created before his death in 2020. This ode to poet, writer, and columnist Remco Campert had three tryouts, but it never premiered. Campert attended the final tryout: “De Laatste Vijftiger en het Eeuwige Circusdier” (The Last Fifties and the Eternal Circus Animal)—they shared poetry that evening, and afterward shared a cigarette in front of the Roode Bioscoop. Remco also passed away in 2022.
In 2023, “Poetry is My Breath” finally received the premiere it deserved. The poetry flowed from the mouths of Campert’s granddaughter Frederique van Rijn and actor Frans van Deursen. Pianist Frank van Bommel and trumpeter Mark Nieuwenhuis laid a beautiful tapestry of notes beneath the words of the poet who was “never fully present.”
Well, the show is back. The newly compiled version of “Poetry is my breath” (produced by Flint and De Roode Bioscoop) is touring the country, including Twisk. This time with the fantastic Jeroen Kramer. Set to the expansive soundscape of the two-man orchestra Nieuwenhuis & Van Bommel. Enriched with the video art of Martijn Grootendorst. An evening full of tender love poetry, cutting commentary on contemporary human shortcomings, musings on the poet’s craft, humorous stories, and always, in the distance, the poignancy of death.
