Muziektheater ‘De Vliegende Hollander’

  • 26 July 2025
    • 20:00 – 21:15

On July 26, 30 musicians and singers will perform a very special version of Richard Wagner’s ‘The Flying Dutchman’… With the music of Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera, they will bring this mythical captain straight into the 21st century for a story full of murder, hysterical fans and eternal love. The tour will be by historic clipper: hence the nickname ‘clipper tour’. The mixed ship’s choir, soloists, hysterical fans, mini orchestra with accordion and percussion will be along. To be seen in Stavoren, Makkum, Terschelling and Medemblik.

The Flying Dutchman, remember? Doomed to wander the sea forever, with only one way out. Once every 7 years a storm sends the ship back to land. If the captain, womanizer Harry Holland, can find a woman there who promises him eternal fidelity, he will be freed from his curse…

Come to this humorous performance of once in seven years! The 19th century womanizer Harry Holland meets ‘today’ the very 21st century, emancipated Polly. Between hysterical superfans, a large sailor choir directly brought in by ship and a megalomaniac rich boomer. And yes, that just happens to be in Stavoren/ Makkum/ Midsland/ Medemblik.

Richard Wagner meets Kurt Weill in this contemporary version of The Flying Dutchman. Stunning music, new arrangements, retranslated texts, fantastic soloists, a large choir and a mini orchestra with accordion and percussion.
