Lezing: Wapendroppings, geheime agenten en neerstortende bommenwerpers

  • 19 June 2025
    • 20:00 – 22:00

As a descendant of this resistance family, Koos will mainly talk about the night drops in Wognum this evening, but also at other drop zones in the West Friesland region. What work had to be done on the ground? Who were the people involved? Were all these night activities not noticed? Why did the occupier not intervene? What did the resistance do with the containers and parachutes?

After the break he discusses tragic war events in Midwoud and Oostwoud. The American B17 bomber Lucky Lady crashed in a Midwoud meadow in early 1945. Only captain Cecil Belton survived this crash. A few weeks later resistance fighter Jan Roosje lost his life during a shooting in Oostwoud. Koos connects these stories with the history of his family and shows how the war still has an impact today.
