Lezing: Oorlog in context: Lessen voor een onzekere wereld
- 30 January 2026
- 20:00 – 22:00
The lecture will focus not only on the broad outlines of both world wars, but also on the essence of waging war. Can we abolish wars? Why do people wage war? And how can we prevent future wars in the context of 80 years of Liberation and in a time of global crises?
Erlend van Ark published his first book on the First World War in 2012 and later wrote another on the Second World War. His work, and this lecture, focuses on exploring questions such as: Why was the front already deadlocked in 1914? And what explains the concept of Blitzkrieg in 1940?
Van Ark offers a clear and coherent overview of the background, dynamics, and consequences of war. By better understanding wars and preparing for them, he believes, we increase the likelihood of living in freedom in the future.
The lecture starts at 8:00 PM, doors open at 7:15 PM
You can also come and have a nice meal beforehand at 6:00 PM,
