Lezing: Luchtoorlog boven West-Friesland

  • 20 March 2026
    • 20:00 – 22:00

The course of the air war over the West Friesland region was primarily determined by Bergen Airfield. This originally Dutch airfield was used by the German Luftwaffe as a day and, more importantly, night fighter base. To support this, a ground radar station was built near Medemblik. As a result, West Friesland quickly became the scene of Allied aircraft being shot down. Later in the war, this region would play a significant role in the arms drops for the Resistance.

Historical researcher Hans Nauta brings these events together in a captivating lecture. Attention is paid to the aerial warfare incidents, but also to various air raids and photo reconnaissance in this region. Using an extensive collection of previously unseen images, visitors gain a sense of what unfolded above and on West Frisian soil.

The lecture starts at 8:00 PM, doors open at 7:15 PM

You can also come and have a nice meal beforehand at 6:00 PM,

Before the lecture, you can enjoy a delicious 1, 2, or 3-course buffet prepared in original WWII field kitchens.
