On Friday 5 September 2025, the Medemblik War Museum will be organising a special lecture on the life and resistance work of AC (Adrie) de Graaf, one of the most important resistance leaders in the Kop van Noord-Holland. Diana and Paul de Graaf will take you into the life of their grandfather AC (Adrie) de Graaf using photos and documents from their family archive.
AC de Graaf settled in the Wieringermeer as a farmer and entrepreneur, but became a key figure in the resistance during the Second World War. He coordinated the arms transports from eight dropping zones in West Friesland to the Wieringermeer and the further distribution to resistance groups throughout North Holland. On 17 April 1945, the day that the Wieringermeer was flooded, he was arrested at the entrance to the polder near Lambertschaag. A few hours later he was murdered near Wognum. A monument now stands at this location in his memory.
This lecture 80 years later by his 2 grandchildren highlights not only his courageous actions, but also the impact on his family and the region. An impressive evening about resistance, sacrifice and memory.
The lecture starts at 8:00 PM, admission starts at 7:15 PM
You can also come and have a nice meal beforehand at 6:00 PM,
Before the lecture you can enjoy a delicious 1, 2 or 3-course buffet that is prepared in original WWII Field Kitchens. From 18:00 you can watch the Live Cooking and get an explanation of how this went to keep feeding our Liberators on the West Front for months. The main course that we prepare is the Blauwe Hap, this is a very tasty nasi table with a story. Come and experience this unique experience before the lecture and book it with your lecture ticket.
