An artwork as inspiration for a new artwork

Manet drew inspiration for his famous work Olympia from Titian’s Venus of Urbino, while Titian, in turn, had looked to Giorgione’s Sleeping Venus. Picasso created no fewer than 27 paintings and 140 drawings based on Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe. Miró even completely transformed a 17th-century figurative painting into a work of art in an abstract language.

Monet’s Rouen Cathedral prompted Roy Lichtenstein to use it for a series of works in the Pop Art style. Elsa Schiaparelli created a garment in response to Dalí’s lobster telephone. Viktor & Rolf also created special couture inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s sunflowers and ears of corn.
