Kika Sprangers – HERA

Saxophonist and composer Kika Sprangers presents the new choir project HERA. Together with PAKS (Kika Sprangers Performing Art Foundation), she brings an ensemble of nine female voices and saxophone to various churches throughout the Netherlands. In the unique acoustics of these spaces, the voices blend with Sprangers’ lyrical saxophone playing into an intense, serene musical experience.

Sprangers has previously worked with vocals in various projects. For example, she composed for the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the National Women’s Youth Choir, and singing also forms an important part of her Large Ensemble. For HERA, she is writing new work in which the power and diversity of female voices take center stage.

In her theatrical production Dochter, Sprangers worked with a similar cast in a grand and scenic setting. With HERA, however, she opts for the purest form of music-making: acoustic, without theatrical elements, but with only sound, audience, and the space.
