In 1998, the Netherlands was introduced to the true entertainer Jörgen Raymann. By then world famous in Suriname, he started a small tour in the Netherlands. That did not go unnoticed, because the NTR immediately asked him to be the presenter for ‘The Comedy Factory’, the first stand-up comedy show on Dutch television.
Raymann quickly became a household name in comedy land. He then made successful full-length theater programs for years. In 2001, he also had his own Latenight TV program on the NPO: ‘Raymann is laat’. This very successful and trendsetting program ran on Dutch TV for over 15 years and was the longest-running Latenight personality program of the NPO ever. In 2019, he rounded off his theater career with a final tour in the Netherlands.
He retired from the entertainment world and is now a successful speaker and trainer for large organizations, SMEs and the government. Yet he got it back on his hips and wrote a new theater program. In 2024 he brought this show to sold-out halls during a short tour through Suriname where it all started.
In 2026 Jörgen will turn 60 and will tour the Netherlands again with “Welkom thuis” his ‘Bigi Yari’ or ‘Kroonjaar’ show. It is a sequel to his successful show ‘Even Slikken’, with which he was in Dutch theaters xx years ago. Now he tells the story of Mister Lasmibalsingh, the Dutch Surinamese who wants to return to his country after 40 years, but discovers that he is a Surinamese everywhere in the world, except in Suriname. There he is now seen as a ‘tata’ so how welcome is he at home?
