In the Little White Church, you step into history upon entering.

The beams, the round ceiling, the flagstone floor. Knowing that the church was already registered in the Domkerk in Utrecht in 1395, and with the flagstones bearing witness to villagers from 400 years ago, one can speak of eternal value.

In this fitting setting of the Little White Church, artists Mique Huijbregts and Ada de Haan have visualized their idea of transience. Their work is largely made of textiles and natural materials. Both artists utilize multiple techniques, such as eco-printing, making paint from flowers, and various textile manipulations.

Some works were created especially for this exhibition. For instance, Ada de Haan has tried to give special attention to the housewives from Abbekerk who were once buried there. Their headstones are adorned with flowers and/or wool, among other things. The inscriptions and the shape of the letters bear witness to great respect for these housewives.

During the creative process, both artists turned out to be occupied with the same thought: Momento Mori. A phrase already used by the Romans: think of the finitude of earthly life. Thus, of all times.

And the artists’ view is that precisely by facing mortality, you can invite yourself to live life to the fullest by, among other things, creating art, connecting with others from different backgrounds, and traveling.
