From June 21 to July 18, 2025, art and culture center De Blauwe Schuit will exhibit in the Bonifacius Church in Medemblik. This large multidisciplinary exhibition shows the talent of the students of De Blauwe Schuit, with a varied range of ceramics, sculptures and paintings. The opening of the exhibition is on June 21 at 13:30, you are most welcome.
The exhibition offers a diversity of work pieces, including ceramics by the students of teacher Marian Daems. You can admire turned, stylized vases and hand-formed work pieces, which have been carefully and creatively processed with glazes and acrylic paint. The variation in shape and color creates a cheerful and lively whole.
The students of teacher Aart Prins present their sculptures in different types of stone, ranging from figurative to abstract. The works vary in size and show the craftsmanship and creativity that the students have developed in the sculpture lessons.
Paintings from the acrylic and oil painting groups of teacher Hilde Schaap are on display that explore the theme of ‘abstraction’. The students started with an image or landscape as a starting point and simplified this into more abstract forms, inspired by the work ‘Trees’ by Mondrian. The result is colourful and cheerful, with bright use of colour and beautiful lines.
The group of teacher Thea Brouwers was inspired by their own lives, by creating a film poster of their personal story. For inspiration they used the exhibition of Jeroen Krabbé in the Cobra Museum, where he made a painting for each decade of his life. The students thought about which elements in their lives deserve the leading role and translated this into powerful, visual compositions.
In addition, the students of teacher Daphne Gerritsma show works that are inspired by the contemporary artist Erik Abel from Oregon, USA. The works are built up of different layers, with an animal as a starting point. By adding abstraction and Abel’s color palette, the works get a modern, graphic look.
The exhibition can be viewed from 21 June to 18 July 2025 in the Bonifacius Church, Kerkplein 9, 1671 CR Medemblik. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30 PM. The entrance is on Breedstraat.
