  • 28 February 2026
    • 15:00 – 16:00

Curious about what you can find underground? Then mark your calendars for Sunday, February 8th, and Saturday, February 28th, for “Archaeology Adventure: Experts Share Their Stories” at Radboud Castle. Two real archaeologists will tell you everything you want to know. This includes a museum visit and is aimed at children aged 6 to 12. Please note: children are only permitted entry accompanied by an adult.

The first in the series was on January 31st with Lorenzo Ruijter. He will be followed by Nancy de Jong and Sander Gerritsen.

Sunday, February 8: Nancy de Jong

Every archaeologist digs in the ground, but did you know you can also excavate without digging? Nancy de Jong will tell you all about it. Nancy is the city archaeologist of Alkmaar and specializes in the castles of Count Floris V. Thanks to geophysical research, among other things, we now know much more about the construction of the castles in West Friesland. Geophysical research allows you to look into the ground without digging. You’ll learn how it works this afternoon.

Saturday, February 28: Sander Gerritsen

Sander Gerritsen is a senior archaeologist at Archeologie West-Friesland. He knows all about the practice of digging. Before you dig, you first need to thoroughly investigate where you might find something. This can be done, for example, by studying old city maps. How do you begin such an investigation and how do you “read” the traces in the ground? Sander explains.
