At the Steam Engine Museum, housed in the former Vier Noorder Koggen steam pumping station, you can see many artisans at work during the festival. There are demonstrations of thatched roofing, basket weaving, pewter casting, woodblock printing, blacksmithing, and much more. Fun for young and old is the free workshop ‘How to build a chimney’. You might also be enchanted by the magical sounds of the Didgeridoo, a wind instrument originating in Australia, where the Aboriginal people have been playing it for thousands of years. If you visit the festival on Sunday, you stand a chance to win a ride in a steam car and can enjoy shows featuring the cheerful miniature vehicles driving around a road circuit by the friends group Minitruckers.nl.

Stanley steam car

The steam car was a popular mode of transport in the late 19th and early 20th centuries until the petrol car surpassed steam. Yet, the steam car has not entirely disappeared from the streets. On Sunday, you can hop aboard (subject to capacity) for €2.50 for a regal ride in an original Stanley steam car from around 1900. Who wouldn’t want to do this!

Adventure for children

In the Steam Lab, there are miniature steam engines with which you can generate steam yourself and discover how James Watts’ world-changing invention works and the power of water and fire. If you lend the stoker a hand, you will receive a real ‘strip diploma’ as a reward. In the pumping station’s old forge, you can also earn a ‘forging diploma’ from the blacksmith.

Super Steam, everything that can spin spins!

This weekend, both the machines inside the museum and some of the outdoor machines are running. In the museum harbor, the coal-fired bucket dredger is under steam. Step aboard and discover how the crew used to live and work.
